When Life Does Not Throw You a Bone

Yeah, you heard me.

Life is always hard, constant struggle, and it all comes down to commodity and consumerism.

People find alternatives to stray away from capitalism and the hegemonic holds that society has always accepted. What I mean by this is, people just give up worldly possessions or material things and live off the land without a care. I wish life was a lovely song that always is sung in tune. Funny how life is not always like that. However, we always chose how we want to live our lives. I chose to live under the umbrella of what everyday people do. I am living the conventional stages of life: go through preschool to high school, get into a good university, apply to grad school, and lastly get a job. Unless I get a PhD, which is highly unlikely.

My path is not always a straight one, but tell me who’s path is always a straight one? Who has a path that does not always lands on forks to make you choose one over the other?

I wish everyone was given a free one million dollar freebie when they are born. That money would be an easier starter when the future hits and you are not forced to worry constantly that you have to find a job right away. In my fantasy world, it would be great to have but we never evolved in that direction for everyone to be equals.

I am writing this because I am a big portion of the pie that everyone else is in. We graduate university and the next step is find a job or apply to grad school (or both). However, a big chunk of us graduate and we are lost. I have been through some experience, yet I am forced to face reality a little faster than anticipated. I am lost still and trying to find my way. I was not ready to get job and had little preparation than I had hoped. I have not yet succeeded in finding something within my list. Maybe I am narrowing the search way too much or my criteria is not open enough. I have no idea. I am still feeling rather under the weather because my current boss is on the fence. I am going to reference my boss as “Boss S”. Boss S has recently applied for jobs. I was not expecting Boss S to be able to find a new place so soon. I thought I had more time, but I was mistaken. I am forced out of employment and into a hermit at home. I mean Boss S has not decided yet, and it is frustrating Boss S is on the fence of what they want to do. Boss S is giving me a whip lash I do not want. It is a constant pull of stay or go. It frustrates me because I do not know what the crap Boss S wants. I know deep in my gut Boss S is going to for sure leave. Why pull on my heartstrings so much? Just make a decision and go with it. I know it is a big choice, but Boss S was so adamant in leaving and wanting a new job. Boss S got it. I hate having my job hang in the hands of others sometimes. I understand why people decide to open and run their own businesses, but that is not my cup of tea. I am trying to figure out my life and what I should do. I put all my beans in one jar too soon. Boss S had gotten my hopes up way too soon, and Boss S just throws me in the dumps after I come back from a short time away. You can see how heartless people are these days. You think you know someone, but at the end of the day it comes down to yourself and putting yourself first. Selfish human beings we are. Makes it very frustrating. I hope Boss S gets what they wanted. Boss S wanted more money and they are getting it. Sometimes you just have to count on yourself and someone you love and trust. Not every human being is going to be nice and sweet to you. If they do, just make sure to keep alternatives/back up. If only I kept up with finding a job early on. I got too comfortable and that ended up to my own demise in the end.

Also, a lot of family stuff as well. “A heart’s a heavy burden…” –Howl’s Moving Castle (2004). That is something that I want left alone. As much as I want to pour my heart out on that.

But back to the original thoughts…my advice is to watch your own self first. It all comes down to that. Make sure you give yourself back up plans in case someone screws you over…

Time for bed.

Sephora’s Black Friday Came Early

If you are a VIB or VIB Rouge holder, you know the first two weeks of November, Sephora had their 20% off coupon. It was like a mad rush for what to buy. My list was small but it packed a big punch. Packing a big punch meant they were high end products. I always keep updated with my fair share of make-up people on YouTube. In addition, it is not a big surprise I keep a small mental list of products that look promising that I want but should wait on Sephora’s discounts. Let us begin on the goods I got, and what I think of them.

Luna Sleeping Night Oil By Sunday Riley

You heard this raved by many YouTubers. I was thinking it over and over, is this bottle worth the $105 I am about to throw down to it? The truth is, it might not work for everyone. When I first tried this, I was skeptical of how this would turn out. I am not not over the moon with the smell, but thankful it does not linger. This is definitely a major pampering item and I feel like you need to factor in multiple face items besides just this luna oil. I would definitely invest in this item. My skin complexion really improved slowly, and it really calmed the acne I already had. I noticed a brightening and my hyper-pigmentation areas were slowly fading back. Okay let me clarify, it is not like after one use my skin improved that drastically. However, I did notice the hyper-pigmentation did not look as dark. My skin was plumped and hydrated and overall glowing. I would give this oil a shot. It really helps improve complexion and do keep in mind it does take time for any major improvements to shine through. If you want a full detail of my skincare, leave a comment and I will post it in my next post.

Touche Éclat by YSL

I might as well tell you now, you will notice a lot of big name products being mentioned. So do not be surprised that during this 20% sale I was splurging on the more pricey items. To tell you the truth, I only used this item just once since I got it. I am not a morning person so when I am rushing to slap on my make up, I skip a few steps or all steps. It might just end up with me only wearing sunscreen out the door with moisturizer underneath. It also does not help when I have gym days (these are the very very minimal days because I only slap on moisturizer and that is it) because I do not wish to spend time removing make up before the workout. I will give a better review on this item when I get more chances to put on a full face of make up. So far I do actually like the texture and from the one time I wore it, it did not cake or flake. So far so good, but I will keep you posted if it is worth purchasing.

Brow Wiz by Anastasia Beverly Hills

I took this with me on my two week vacation and let me tell you, this is something I plan to buy more than once. I fell in love with the precision it gave me. I was looking for something to replace my Hourglass brow pencil. The Hourglass brow pencil is not bad at all, but I wish for more precision when I am trying to fill in my brows. I got this from the brow wiz. I was able to draw my brows in nicely and I had so much more control compared to Hourglass. Also, the packaging to the Hourglass is very poor. This is the second Hourglass brow pencil and I returned my first one because the entire product fell out of the pencil. I do not know why it detached itself from the package, but  Hourglass needs to fix this problem because it happened twice! I still use the Hourglass one, but I fell in love with Anastasia’s brow wiz. It was everything I wish for in giving me the accuracy and it glides on very smoothly! I would say definitely put your money into getting one!

Mia 2 by Clarisonic

(Lavender Hydration Skin Cleansing System- Sephora’s bundle that came with a Fresh Soy Face Cleanser, Belif The True Cream Moisturizing Bomb, and GlamGlow ThirstyMud Hydrating Treatment)

I wanted to get the Starry Night limited-edition color, however the products that were bundled with everything was not something I wanted to use. I just got this a few days ago and even after one use, I knew it was worth the investment. My skin was so smooth after using it. Even the days after my skin is still pretty smooth. As smooth as a baby’s bottom! Yes I had to say that, because it is true. My skin just feels great and the texture has improved a lot. It feels pretty nice on the skin when using it. I would say give it a good try and see for yourself. I would invest in it.

I would say give all these items a try if they are on your list! They are raved by a lot of people for a reason. But please also take things like a grain of salt. What might work for me and other people who put positive notes on them, might not work for you. However, take a chance, it is worth trying and saying you do not like it versus ignoring it completely. Sometimes things are worth trying. You never know what you might end up falling in love with!

Life Happened

I have been a little off my game as of constantly blogging. A mixture of work and my own personal life kicked my gears into motion during September. Now that the dust has settled a little, I can finally sit back and give you some fun insights as to where some of my fashion has taken me in the past month or so?

I got a few goodies from this store before I jet set into vacation mode next month. Here are some of the items I purchased.

I can not say enough good things about this skirt. I was skeptical at first when I was trying this on at Zara. I thought to myself “gray on me? I do not think it will flatter me”. I was wrong. I ended up purchasing this cutie and tried it on with some of my other clothing I have at home and it works really well. I have been trying to pair different skirts with my red hunter rain boots, and this skirt was something I needed as a staple item.

This shirt goes well with a pair of leggings or a dark washed pair of jeans. I did attempt to pair this shirt with the gray mini skirt I purchased. It looks better when the asymmetric hem is tucked into the skirt. If you do not wish to tuck this shirt away, I would definitely pair it with something other than a skirt. Shorts or pants works just fine. It is a nice staple layering item. It is thin enough to not overheat you. The plus side is that it is sleeveless which makes layering a sweater over will not turn you into a human oven.

Who does not like a good pair of ankle booties? I know they may not be Ilsa’s exact replica, but they are super adorable and more affordable than dropping $800 on the exact shoes she has. Like every heeled bootie, it might not provide the best walking shoes, but it sure tie your outfit together nicely, no matter if it is a dress or pants.

Those are a few of my Zara purchased items. For my maybe list, I am still debating on this skater skirt:

This new item is super adorable, especially the way that Zara pair it with the model. However, when I tried this skirt on in the store, I was not exactly blown away by it. It was cute, do not get me wrong. However, I wish the skirt had a zipper like the gray one I purchased. The stretch material was a good setback for me to not throw my credit card to complete this purchase. This skirt is available in 4 shades: maroon, mid-grey, black, and off-white. If you do not mind not having a zipper and want a skirt that is pull up without having to button or zip, than this skirt works for your autumn wardrobe. I would buy a size up for more comfort level, since it is form hugging.

Maybe it was watching Mission Impossible. Maybe because this trench is machine washable. Maybe it was both. I caved. I could not resist this beauty. Once I tried this trench on at the Burberry store, I was like already throwing my credit card at the sales person. Okay I did not throw him my credit card, but I could not walk out and turn my head away from this jacket. I bought this trench in one size bigger than the one that was form-fitting. As much as the form-fitting one looked amazing, I needed the arm movement, and I needed this jacket to be functional besides stylish. I wanted to make sure that if I was wearing layers underneath this jacket, I would still be able to move my arms comfortably. What good is a super pricey jacket when you can not wear a good thick sweater underneath? The other positive to this trench is the fact that I can throw this into my washing machine. The whole dry cleaning factor always stopped me from purchasing a Burberry trench before. I buy an expensive coat and have to pour more money into it, just to wash? I do not think so. Overall, I am super happy with my purchase. The other bonus is that most Burberry trench coats are over a grand each. Maybe it is the washable factor? But I am happy that it was not over the moon pricey. Still pricey, but I can live with it. I was debating on the black trench and the navy. I ended picking the navy shade because I already have a few peacoats and other jackets that are black. Gotta try another shade of dark colors right? I also love the detachable hood it comes with. Which is another bonus for where I plan to travel next month. When you purchase a pretty expensive jacket, you want to make sure it can just do more than make you look good. The more functions, the better.

I hope my quick run down of my most recent purchases helped spark a small curiosity for you. Let me know if you want any further details on my purchases.

Much Love,

Bug in the Tummy

Who knew watermelon could go bad… I never claim I am the smartest of the bunch, but if there is one thing I learned this week is that watermelon can go bad, and you should always smell your fruit before blending it into a smoothie. I made that grave mistake on Monday & Tuesday. I got the worst part of the “food poisoning” on Tuesday.

The secret side of watermelon you never even knew of.

The secret side of watermelon you never even knew of.

Hence, the disappearing act on my part. You can blame the evil fruit that is haunting my dreams as we speak. My stomach is still feeling the effects of it on a Friday night. The nurse I spoke with had a good chuckle of how I failed to restrict my diet to only:

  • plain rice (porridge)
  • plain crackers
  • bananas
  • apple sauce
  • lots of water

I am sorry, sometimes a bowl of freshly cooked BBQ pork fried rice floats in front of me, and I lack the resistance to not enjoy freshly made BBQ pork. Also, if you mixed it into homemade fried rice with some of that delicious BBQ drippings, you my friend have got yourself a bread-winner. Could I fail anymore? Why yes, yes I can. Each day I still mixed a smoothie of vegetables, assortment of fruit, and two giant tablespoon of low-fat Greek yogurt. You heard me…

Greek Yogurt

Greek Yogurt

My love of dairy has caused my tummy more troubles during this troublesome time. I am hoping to recover as quickly as possible. For now, I am laying in my bed and daydreaming of what I want to fill my stomach with once this nightmare has ended. However, dairy is not the only restriction in what my stomach can handle. My leafy greens will also be placed on hold. Tough life when you are not 100% functioning properly. I keep yawning, it is best I try to call it a night for now. Maybe I will write a longer post next time. Just remember to smell what food you are given and double check what the food texture is like. AND… watermelon can go bad. It gets a bad odor and the texture changes.

Happy Resting,

We Could Match with Ilsa!

As you guys are well aware, I made a post not too long ago of some of the products you could find from the Mission Impossible movie. Today I am bringing you a small update/review. We know Ilsa’s infamous black strappy heels she wears in the opera scene.

I have been searching high and low for a similar pair of shoes that can be considered as a “dupe”. Let us be truthful here, it is not easy spending $899 (not including tax) on a pair of Jimmy Choo’s (unless you are in circumstances that allow you to splurge easily). In my honesty, I had a hard time wrapping my mind in allowing my credit card to cry for a pair of Jimmy Choo heels. I know myself, and it is difficult to keep a pair of luxury brand shoes in mint condition. That is why I pushed myself to try to come across something similar, and I have. Let me present to you, Ted Baker’s “Ninof Suede Wrap Around Gladiator Sandals“!

They are not 100% exactly the same, but they are very close! The positive side of things is that it is $230 (USD) for these cute heels! I know it is still in the $$$ range of items, but at least you are saving around $600 in the long run. I already ordered a pair for myself and it came in the mail this week. I was nervous at first because I was not sure how comfortable these heels would be. Just looking at the image and the pin-thin heels already makes you sweat a little. However, that is not the case. I slipped these heels on my feet and they felt very comfortable. There is a bit of a padding at the sole of the feet which makes them tolerable. I already know that when I wear these heels for more than two hours my feet will want them off. In this case, it will not matter as much because I plan to use them for dates and special occasions when it matches my outfits. I love the bottom of these heels! I wrote a post back in July mentioning Cinderella’s shoes and these shoes mentions Cinderella!

"Cinderella is proof that a new pair of shoes can change your life"

“Cinderella is proof that a new pair of shoes can change your life”

Ted Baker, you really know how to charm the girls! Also, in terms of the size you should order (in case you do not have a Ted Baker store nearby, or if they do not have any at a Ted Baker near you) I would go a size up. My feet are pretty small (5.5 US) I usually always size up to either a 6 or 6.5 depending on the shoe brand. However, when I buy heels, flats, and boots, I usually go with a size 7 (US), because size 6 and 6.5 always fits just right. The concept of “always fits just right” is a good and bad thing. The good is that the shoe fits you perfectly, and the bad is that you have no wiggle room and it is still constricting your foot. Since the choice of 6.5 (US) did not exist, I went a whole size up and going for the 7 (US). I do note that everyone’s foot size is different so my shoe size concept does not match everyone’s profile 100%. Also, every shoe brand is different and the shoe sizing can go either way. The size 7 (US) turned out to be PERFECT! I was able to walk in a normal fashion and the shoe was not constricting, nor was it too loose! I was able to get my foot in and out easily and the shoe does not have a lot of wiggle room despite being a “whole” size bigger than the 6 (US). It is the perfect amount of space all around. Overall, it was a great purchase and the shoe is hands down super adorable! If you are looking to complete your Ilsa outfit, then here is your chance now! Let me know in the comments if you got a pair for yourself or not! Have a lovely day!

Ctrl + F + Friendship

When was the last time you scrolled through your contacts? When was the last time you contacted that one friend you once were super close with? That was me at the beginning of this month.

It takes a few seconds to message a friend. It does not take much effort to reach out and say a simple greeting. Friendship comes in all shapes and forms. It is up to us to keep those friends in our lives. Distance is just a number to me. I have friends from all over, and it just takes a little time and effort to send them a little greeting. I still have a few friends I need to contact and say hello to, but my first step is initiating the step. It is not easy, because I have many of those lazy days where I tell myself, “Tomorrow, tomorrow will be the day I send them a message!” It is always the first step to push myself. I am not perfect in keeping up with my contacts. But hey, I am human and I try my best. I still need to send my pen pal a letter back and a small package. I will get it done! Hopefully before August ends. The one thing I read recently on a friend’s Facebook post is that a friend is always a friend no matter what. A friend might not always stay in contact because they are busy, but you can always give them a call and they will answer. A friend always has your back, rain or shine.

The most important thing to remember is that friends never leave your side. We just need to put in a small effort here and there to stay in contact.

I made this post because I wanted readers to think, “When was the last time I contact (insert your friend’s name here).” It is never too late to make contact! If I can contact my old buddies, so can you! I just had a lot on my mind. There are some regrets that I did not contact a friend earlier, until today. We lost touch for two years and a lot has happened in that time frame. I learned a lot and I wish I was there for her during the rough patches she had. That is why I encourage you to talk to friends you have not talked to in a long time. Sometimes they need a hand, and the contact you make to see how they are really can make a difference. Remember do not be a stranger and take a few seconds from your busy schedule to say hello to someone you have not talked to in a very long time.

Good Luck,

Where Can I Get That?

What a lovely Saturday! Minus the part where I realized how much I failed in washing the dishes today! Lets just say, I established with mi amor that he is going to deal with the dishes in the future. My dish washing skills might lead to a drought or something… or a semi-flooded kitchen…

Okay I went a little crazy and decided to watch Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation (2015) for a second time this week. The fashion/beauty part of my brain was kicking in high gear and wanting answers to some of the things that appeared in the film. Lets get started! (Just a heads up nothing in this post is sponsored, everything I mentioned is from research I did on my own)

  • Item #1: Lipstick USB

It was not hard to guess what brand this lipstick came from since I bought a tube from Sephora last year. The lipstick is from Clinique and they stock a variety of shades using the same lipstick tube design (silver with ridges). The color specifically that was featured in MI was difficult to tell since I did not have remote access to pause the movie. From my assumptions, using clues from when Simon Pegg’s character “Benji” examined the lipstick & the kiss Ilsa (Rebecca Ferguson) left on the paper hanging on the door in Casablanca, the shade is part of the Clinique “different lipstick” line in the shades “A Different Grape” or “Tenderheart”. You can take the guess for yourself which shade is the one from the movie since I am not 100% sure.

  • Item#2: Trench Coat
  • Item#3: Shoes

I combined items 2 and 3 together because of the research I did. Let us start with the trench coats the audience sees Ilsa wear in the film. Thanks to stumbling across Fashionista’s post by Fawnia Soo Hoo when I was researching, I was able to find out that at least one of the trench coat Ilsa wears is from Burberry, and the other costumes are made purely for the movie from scratch. There are many alternatives to buying a stylish trench coat, and it does not have to be from Burberry, because lets face it, not everyone is going to fork over $1000+ for a clothing item. I just recently purchased a Top Shop trench coat from Nordstrom’s sale, and I was skeptical at first, but it was a great purchase after I tried it on. I swear online shopping can be scary because you are never sure what size fits you. A 50/50 gamble in luck whether it fits or not. My suggestion is to wait for a sale and shop around, because you never know when a cute affordable trench coat floats your way. On the other hand, we always have shoes to complete outfits. Which brings me to the next item, shoes. Ilsa wears some nice looking shoes in the movie, especially the ones she always takes off before some real ass kicking happens. The first shoes comes from the scene where Ethan wakes up tied to a pole and Ilsa walks into the scene to prepare to interrogate Ethan. Those cute black booties you see her take off are from Gianvito Rossi, they are the “Vamp 100 Suede Ankle Boots“. They come in two textures for black, suede or leather. In my opinion, it looks like Ilsa is/was wearing the suede version of Rossi’s black ankle boots. Sadly I have not been able to find any cheaper alternatives, but leave me a reply if you are able to find a dupe of these cute boots (and I will keep everyone posted if I find any dupes). The next pair of shoes is the pair Ilsa wears with her stunning yellow dress during the opera scene. These cute heels are from Jimmy Choo (thanks again to the Fashionista blog post I stumbled across that captioned what Ilsa’s shoes were underneath the image). For these cute heels I was unable to locate the exact Jimmy Choo she wears from the official website and other department stores that carry Jimmy Choo. However, Jimmy Choo provides similar styles even though the style Ilsa wears is no longer provided. A good alternative check up on is Sam Edelman. You can find similar looking heels that are cheaper than Jimmy Choo. For now, Fall season has not arrive yet, but keep your eyes open for new arrivals on their site, you never know if a similar style heel might appear. I would give you alternatives, but the reason behind me suggesting Sam Edelman is because of the comfort behind their shoes. I have two ankle boots I got from Nordstroms, and they are super comfy! Plus, Black Friday is coming up in a few months and Sam Edelman has great sales on their shoes! The last pair of shoes I want to mention are the red boots Ilsa wears when she arrives back in London to meet with Attlee (Simon McBurney). There are images you can Google of her outfit. The costume she wears is paired with red ankle boots, I may not know the exact brand she is wearing but I have found a couple of alternatives that you can pair to recreate her outfit (Rag & Bone: Avery Bootie) (GX by Gwen Stefani: Clone Pointy Toe Platform Bootie). There are other department stores you can try to find a more exact copy of her boots, but these are just my suggestions to help narrow your search a little more.

Overall, I hope my research helps you out in narrowing your search to finding out what exactly is featured in the movie. Also, I came across this cool blog by The Fine Art Diner, who discusses MI(V) movie in detail of the themes that occur in the movie. A fair warning, do not read the post till after you watch the movie, because it does contain spoilers! I was really intrigued by the post, and since I had a lot of “theme” related courses back in Uni days, it tickled my interests. Do definitely go check it out if you like a good post that gets you thinking deeper about the film.

Much Love & Happy Hunting,

Transformers: Age of Extinction (2014) (Movie Review)

Oh Netflix… You really know how to mix my curiosity by providing me with movies I never really watched in theaters. So let me get to it.

Transformers: Age of Extinction (2014)

This movie was okay. I wanted a little more plot and the introduction of the new characters was a little rough. I enjoyed Transformers (2007) and Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (2009) because we had a steady character base who continued from one movie to the next. I did not watch the third installment of the film series because they crossed Megan Fox off the list of regulars. You might give me different viewpoints of why we did not need Megan Fox, but for me she was one of the faces to Transformers. The change of pace really knocked my axis off alignment, and I skipped the third movie all together. This movie (Age of Extinction) provided me with lots of fighting scenes, and humor here and there. I am sure you figured out that I love a bit of comic relief in films, but it did not set my interest on fire like other films. I really did like Joshua Joyce (Stanley Tucci) in this film. I really did label him as fully evil early in the movie and Joyce was in it for self glory for figuring out how to make a transformer (plus he is KSI head personnel + face of the company). I am glad he had some realization of what was going on with his lab creations. Plus, I really like Stanley Tucci as an actor (maybe that is why I gave him brownie points). Overall, this movie is more of something you would watch when nothing else is available (or when you get curious enough like I did). This movie was more of stimulating your senses with fight scenes and a jumpy plot. I hope the next installment is a little better than this one, because “Age of Extinction” really missed the mark. Watch if you feel like it, but it is not a movie to jump up and down for.

My Rating: 6/10

Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation (2015) – Review

First a big “WOW”.

I was not even expecting to watch Mission Impossible – Rogue Nation (2015) today. I was dragged by a sibling to go and watch it. Lo and behold, I enjoyed it! I am a person who loves watching a good action movie. I am a little picky with films, and this film did not disappoint. It felt like a good book that I am sitting down trying to read and can not get enough of. I am not a constant fan of the “Mission: Impossible” franchise, but I have watched some of the past films on and off. The back story is Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) is trying to prove the existence of the Syndicate (an organization that has highly skilled agents trying to bring a “new order” to the world aka the bad guys). The film leads you through a chase of different locations like Morocco and how Hunt takes down the bad guy. There was some good comic relief scattered through the film, and I found it refreshing. I love a good film with a bit of humor, it gives the audience a chance to regroup and loosen the tensions a bit. I was a little disappointed that IMF Agent William Brandt (Jeremy Renner) was not very present in this film compared the to last one (Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol (2011)). Maybe the Avengers took more of Renner’s schedule (who knows). But I am happy he was still kicking around in the film. If you want a full run down synopsis with spoilers, you can look on Wiki. I would give this movie a chance if you simply brushed it aside. I would definitely go back and watch it again (proving that it is a movie worth watching). The black BMW S1000RR sport bikes were serious drool envy for me, and those motorcycles are pushing my gear to make me want to take motorcycle lessons possible this year or early next. I blame mi amor for my small obsession with motorcycles. Besides the motorcycles, go and give this Tom Cruise movie a chance, you will not be disappointed. Also, the underwater scene of Hunt holding his breath for 3 minutes was “cray”. Makes me want to go test how long I can hold my breath underwater for…

Traveling Thoughts of Home

Ever since I booked my flight for November, I am nervous. Every time I set out for a yearly trip, the pit of my stomach gets the home blues. Wait, what?

Home Sickness

I get home sick during the few days before and the day of my trip. Weird right? Usually my close friends and family are more excited. I do get excited when I travel, but there are always those jitters that like to appear every time.

“You Don’t Know What You Got, Till It’s Gone…”

-Big Yellow Taxi

I wish I could explain it clearly, but maybe it leads back to the bird leaving the nest. Being at home for so long really settles into your soul in some way. I know when my own adventure is ready to set sail I might not have the feeling of nostalgia running around. I know I am still young, but no matter the age you always look back and remember the past. I think traveling helps me flutter my wings for a little bit. Home sickness is not something new in my books. I always have a bit of insomnia when I am not in my own bed. I had it as a kid, and I remember it shook my roots a little. I remember I was going away to camp and the first night I was there, I knew I was ready to pack my bags and head home. I was young, and I thought not being able to sleep was a very bad thing. I remember crying and calling home. I was ready for my parents to just pick me up. However, I am glad I was able to finish camp with great memories. It was a rocky start, but I am glad the camp counselors were able to keep me company. Especially the assigned cabin counselor. I am thankful for her staying up with me for a little longer each night so I was able to try to read a little bit of Chicken Soup to quiet the storm in my mind. This memory is also a lesson for me. When I have children of my own, I want to tell them that it is okay if they are not able to sleep. The thought of being away from home and somewhere unfamiliar is uneasy for the first night, but losing a night of sleep is not the end of the world. I wish my parents told me that before camp. But camp is a place to learn to step away and be away from the shelter of home. I think the best thing I enjoyed was going back home and taking a longer shower than just 2 minutes.

It is okay to lose a night of rest, the jitters sometimes do get the most of us. Just remember to enjoy those life lessons. Breath a little fresh air and explore.

Overall, it is a good thing to travel and experience jitters, the jitters remind us all that no matter how far we travel, home is always close to the heart.

Side-Note: I just watched Oblivion (2013) and I really like that lake-house Jack Harper builds in the secluded area. Sometimes I wish life was as simple as living in a quiet open space where living was as carefree, peaceful, isolated, safe, and quiet like that lake-house. The movie was not bad, it was a nice twist to the ending. Sometimes we need to be careful with what we find out there in space… these SciFi movies always get my imagination churning a little.

My Rating: 7/10
